Thanks Darren, that is an impressive list.

there were soo many wrecks that were rumored to have had gold and treasures onboard when they sank, it is nearly impossible, to find out where the rumors originated or what basis they had for starting them in the first place. some folks seem to think every old wreck from the 1800's or early 1900's, had all the gold ever shipped from Alaska onboard when they went down. ( the paddle steamer Portland is the perfect example of non-existant treasure ).

extensive research should be done first, before any wreck hunting begins, there are way too many tales of treasure that never even existed, ( sure it makes for good reading, but that it is also why most wreck books are uesless for reasearch, they simply perpetuate or even exagerate on the rumors )

Thanks, guys. Most shipwreck lists aren't worth the paper they're written on. I speak from experience in saying that any wreck must have proper research for verification. The problem is that many think that if it's written in more than one book, that must verify it. Have fun with the list. It's not mine. My assumption is that Allen's list has at least been preliminarily researched and is a better list. In researching, get as close to the original source as possible. Don't forget that there may have been a recovery operation somewhere along the way. Google Books also opens the door for researchers like never before. But if the truth be known, the best wrecks are not found in books or old newspaper articles. They are found in files not opened in decades...or centuries. Get familiar with your state archives. Go to the National Archives. If you're able to travel abroad (or already live in key world cities), go visit the archives there. Become friends with other serious researchers. Trust me - mounds of info await the patient researcher who wants to find the shipwreck info no one has. I'm not sharing mine publicly just yet  I also recommend - gasp! - that you work with respective gov'ts in recovery. Never try to sneak out treasure. You will get caught. You will lose out in the end. Enough said for now.

Happy researching,
Darren

You are an absolute star, thanks. I have been to many of these places but am focusing on where I live in the Bahamas. I truly want to find the ancillary things off an old wreck to display because treasure generally cannot be displayed and causes so much trouble from incarceration to death.
All the very best and if you are ever Bahamas way drop me a note

FWIW, I wouldn't put much stock into anything Riesenberg published. He lived in a time where you sold the sizzle, not the truth. I haven't found anything of his credible. I believe Marx states something similar about him in his (Marx's) early books.

I agree with Darren. I see a lot of errors in your list. The first ship you listed, the Golden Hinde was Sir Francis Drakes ship. It did not wreck but after circumnavigating the world was parked at Deptford in the Thames River. It was put on display and lasted over 100 years before it rotted away.

FWIW, I wouldn't put much stock into anything Riesenberg published. He lived in a time where you sold the sizzle, not the truth. I haven't found anything of his credible. I believe Marx states something similar about him in his (Marx's) early books.
Darren, you are correct about Harry Riesenberg. When I went to Coastal School of Deep Sea Diving. Al Mickalow owner the school and be went on a few adventures with Harry and I think he co authored a treasure book with him. He said, that Harry made up a lot of his storys.

Many times any area that may contain any actual treasures, or valuable wrecks (or that may hold highly commercially valuable natural resources) are conveiniently declared as a state or federal park or preserve area. It is just another means of governmental theft, they are claiming ownership over it all, without ever finding it, while at the same time prohibiting others from searching for it, or profiting from it.

As for the "HMS Faithful Steward", here is a link that may give you a bit more information about it... Faithful Steward

I am unfamilar with that wreck or the area, but i'd say that if there is a state or federal park or preserve area near that location, the chances are good that the wrecksite is located within it's boarders.
