The stopper is a lozenge type made between 1760 -1820 ,with the decanter a club,c.1780. The rings around the neck indicate it was for a ship, possible Captains Quarters. Do not wash crystal in hot water...as it dulls the glass.
    Great find

This looks like a very good find. Tell us about the location (within reason), that you found this. How deep is the wreck and what type of dive conditions, any other artifacts recovered that may help ID this shipwreck?

Rough diving - shallow reef in the surf, there are a number of thin cannon - i would guess Spanish, large bronze wheel and yes plenty of other artifacts I wil post later on. GypsyHeart I came up with teh similar info from a Google site, did find another which dated the other as older, from 1650-1730 the Lozenge is the only part of the puzzle which does date the 1760-1820 era, however the neck rings are applied and the pontil scar very different, older also some of the other artifacts are older including some coins, could be two shipwrecks ontop of one another, never know. So how do I remove the black residue? Its lead or carbon type buildup the glass still smooth no cracks what appears like a crack in the picture is just a smudge line, they are mint, one lozenge has two small chips near microscopic but could be cleaned up by a glass maker once I can fit inside the hole I dug into the coral I could grab several more as they were saved this way by the bronze wheel and coral and one large ballast rock, hard work for one diver but rewarding 99*thanks for the input Gypsy and WD1715

I would hate to steer you wrong....but I have used a mixture of peroxide and baking soda to clean the inside of old bottles with rice, to act as as a scrubber ............But I would try vinegar first...let it soak in it a few days to try and remove the build up. Another alternative is to put one of those denture cleansing tabs in it,fill with warm water and let sit over night.

NEVER TRIED IT MYSELF, BUT SPRAY ON OVEN CLEANER COMES TO MIND. YOU MIGHT TEST A SPOT WITH A SWAB.

I would be really careful about using any harsh chemical cleaner or abrasives...
