I am spending the Hollidays in the Netherlands and have been looking for areas to hunt. I have studied the Lutine which wreck with lots of Gold in 1799. In a couple of days i am travelling to Vlieland and Terschelling the site of the Lutine wreck to do a little beach hunting but was wondering if anyone knew of any other wrecks that happened here?

Any "VOC" boats that sank with money?

Plenty of VOC boats sank with money. The one that comes to mind is the Hollandia. But that sank off the Scilly Isles. Nowhere close to where you are. For your viewing pleasure, I've attached a coin that was recovered from the Hollandia.

Once on Terschelling you could visit the wreckmuseum. A collection presented in a different way than the usual museums, but done in a nice way. It might lead you to a new thread.

Oh yeah - all the t'hunters convinced Santa left their present in the sand!

Way to go,Greg, from Treasure Coast to Holland!

I went the North shore of Eleuthera yesterday until a squall chased me off - nothing but a few fishing floats- not even glass ones anymore and some shells but never leave a beach empty handed

If rain stops have a little cave along the shore I have been meaning to check....

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good hunt!

We once had an 'expert' in VOC vessels in this Forum though he is no longer a member. If you can SEARCH this forum you may be able to read his previous T-Net postings about VOC vessels worldwide.
Merry Christmas,
Don....

Sad to say, Corny's post were all deleted at his request. He can be found on another forum, though. Great wealth of info. But we also have folks here with good info coming, I'm sure.

Two ships carrying Treasure wrecked in Dutch waters were the Vleigent Hart (Flying Hart) and the smaller Anna Catherina

The Vleigent Hart has been located and a reasonable proportion of her treasure recovered but i beleive the Anna Catherina is still to be located.

Web site for the second Flying Hart excavation is www.voc-flyinghart.co.uk

When I saw the title of this topic, Cornelious was the first person I thought of as a resource...then I realized he hadn't been posting here in a long time. He seemed to have a wealth of information.

Whatever happened to him? Was he banned, or did he leave on his own accord? I recall some people disagreeing with him on a couple of ideas...he was likely just as hard headed and opinionated as they were....but I can't recall any reasoning for him leaving.

hes on another website --he and I are freinds * he "invited" me to that site and I do visit it and him now and then --he is a smart man with lots of knowledge that can get riled at times by others and thus had issues with others is why he left / was banned . -- when he left his past "input" left with him as well as per his request.

I made it to Vlieland yesterday. I didn't have much luck on the beach, there was not much erosion. The Dutch have built breakers all down the beach to prevent the sand from eroding away. I did learn alot about the Lutine and also learned that a boy a few years ago found a coin on the beach from that wreck. I visited a museum on the island that is full of stuff washed ashore most of the items were WWII.
I also found a map that has probably 200 wrecks and their locations that had wrecked on or near the island. I have no way to scan it right now or i would post it.

Here are a few photo's of the place....
