The tedious task of examining the wrecks for damage is beginning, though it's uncertain whether BP will be held responsible for ruining underwater sites.

When BP is found to be responsible ruining underwater sites then let the claims of treasure hunters begin!

This is a good time for the state of florida to start handing out salvage contracts.

BP admits it did not use safety procedures and also fears a "takeover".

Better to salvage quickly, than to have all that slime on the artifacts. Can we convince Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas to let the salvage begin ?

That 25 % could help offset some of the costs of cleanup.

So the news story goes -- they tried hard to scrape up a 5-Gal bucket full of tar balls but couldn't get there, think the area was from Sabine Pass down to Matagorta Bay, (by the way, for the map challenged, that's in the hundreds of miles). There is natural seepage into the Gulf from underground fractures and there have been tar balls on the beach that I know of, since the 1970's. That along with the trash and beer cans (and used to be beer bottles, until they passed a law banning them) is why everyone spent time lounging around the pools at the motel instead of braving the surf. Not to mention that the water is a murky brown, due to all of the rivers flowing into the Gulf and Galveston Bay; the clear blue water begins down in the Rockport, Corpus Christie area (South Padre Island).

P.S. -- for those of you who do not know, at San Luis Pass, south of Galveston heading to Freeport, there are unplesant things out there in the water THAT WILL EAT YOU, like sharks. Famous tales from the shark hunting bunch -- friend once had jeep skidding to waters edge until he let line on winch play out, that's after (the loop in line around) piling was broken off -- glad he did not have line bolted to winch, learned that from old timer who had one go into the drink. Thinks he either caught a 600 Lb class shark, manta ray, or small whale near to shore.

ok so now "they" worry about the submerged wrecks

oil will damage the wrecks and so will time and the ocean - it already has

what about the damage the action of the sea has been doing all these years???

salvage is the process of saving, recovering, preventing further destruction

we all profit from it - monetary return or not -

let the salvors work - save it -

Capthawk the state archaeologists and ESPECIALLY the Texas Historical Comission would rather see the treasure rot away and disappear before they will let us greedy treasure hunters have it! That is how they think.
