    Another shipwreck

I understand that a lot of guys are not interested in anything but Florida , but I think wrecks are wrecks and salvage is salvage . All wrecks should be interested to us .
The Frederik Hendrik , a Dutch East Indiaman os 1100 tons , carrying 60 bronze cannon and commanded by captain Michiel Vis , departed from the Wielingen on March the 26th 1642 and reached Batavia on January the 8th 1643 .
Eaxtly five years later , on 8 january 1648 , while sailing to Holland with a crew of 326 men and a cargo valued at over 850.000 silver Dutch Florins ( with a todate value of about 8.5 million ) , she struck a reef near the northern end of the Banka Strait , and then sank with all her cargo and treasure and over 100 passengers and her crew . This ship has never been salvaged although I have heard that there is some interest in her by some Germans . Well , they need a lot of good luck because the waters are murky because the outflow of some large rivers from the Island of Sumatra dumping into the Strait . The rewards are pretty good though . Re: Another shipwreck

Cornelius, The way the State of Florida is treating Treasure Salvors. I for one am happy that you are posting about wrecks all over the world. I may not be able to look for any of them, but I sure would be Happy to read about someone else that found one of these wrecks because of you generating interest about it on this forum.

Thanks for all the good work.

    Re: Another shipwreck

The reason I am posting these wrecksites is to show that there are more interesting wrecks around than just in Florida . I understand that you have to have some money to go after these wrecks and that for most of us with regular jobs , comming home in the evening to start dreaming of an adventure it is impossible to think far beyond Florida . There is one thing one can do however and that is to research a little beyond Florida . To get to know more about the times of Galleons and the cargo they had in their holds . There is nothing wrong with dreaming a little and collect knowledge about this fascinating time . Maybe some of us will have the time and money to go after some of the other wrecks . For other it is just a way to keep on dreaming for the possibility to join some of these men that do go out . Cornelius

    Shipwrecks

    Re: Another shipwreck

sounds very interesting, I would love to put together an expedition to seek and salvage some of the wrecks I've read about over the years. you just never know how the winds of fortune are going to blow. if I ever do find one from your research I'd glady give you a nice stipend for sure. thanks for posting this I hardly ever hear about dutch or portugese shipwrecks.
them that dive will be the lucky ones !!
