History of equipment used to search under water

I am doing a history search on the different equipment used in seaching underwater, examples as in mailboxes, clam bucket cranes, the use of cassons, double direction props, most anything.If anyone has pictures to post or a book title to go too would be great. I am a beach hunter planning to move down that way and i believe in redesigning the wheel once in a while. I am sure most everything has been tried and then some but you never know. We need boat trailed underwatercamers and sensors........this would be inplace of the best robotics that are available but overpriced.
