Shipwreck Databases

I know there are many commerical shipwreck databases available on the Internet.? However, I'd like to create my own to start keeping track of information/research that I've accumulated about shipwrecks.?

I was hoping to pick some brains about what types of "data" I should "keep" about shipwrecks that I'm tracking.

For example:

Country of Orgin:
Vessel Type:

etc.

Using Graveyard of the Atlantic by David Stick and North Carolina Shipwreck Accounts by Joan Charles This is some of the data by column I would use:

Ship Name. Location. Wood/Iron. Length/Tonage.Year Built. Cargo.Power. Lives Lost. Salavaged.


and in foot note col. show info source.

Thanks for the info Charles -- I'll have to look into those two books as well.

Right now, I'm interested in any wrecks in the Great Lakes area -- as I'm very close to them!

My Shipwrecks in the Americas by Marx's only lists 4vessel sunk in the Great Lakes between 1679 and 1803. I'll see what else I have.

I've compiled at present 22,717 shipwrecks so far ranging from Canada to North Sea.

The info that I've compiled my database at the present with are Name, Type,Cause of wrecking,Date of Wrecking, Location,Depth and Noate/Info (that might prove useful if diving)
