Help...does anyone know what the @ symbol above a word or used alone signifies in Spanish documents. This one is from 16th century Spain. Also the abreviation for heirs (herederos) is it hr(o above the r)?

Any help will be greatly appreciated...

I love paleography. I swear that, sometimes, it's even better doing it than to be actually diving after the leads on documents. :)

Still a crappy image... :)

Anyhow, as to your factual question, the @ is generally an shortening for "ra".

Like in "pa@ mi Snr." you should read "para mi Señor"

Check all most widely signs and shortenings used in modern Spanish here:

yeah sorry its from the early 1500's. What do you think about the hr (with the o above it) means? heredero or hermano? i can find it anywhere in the books ive refrenced...
Thanks for the link i sure will check it out.

Hmmm, I would say late 1500´s.

"Manda que hizo alonzo garcia hijo de Villal pando"?

What is it? A will? A property/land note? I guess it's not shipwreck related. But it seems very easy to read.

Traviessa, if you manage to send me the whole photo document (not the small one you have posted first nor the larger, confused, excerpt that you posted later) I will get it done for you:
