What was the depth of water when the scan was made?
What was the depth of the sidescan probe? Distance from bottom.
Does your sonar store all scans in memory in real time?
Can you edit certain areas for specific needs?
Did you use a DGPS when making this recording? I noticed in another
post that your position was only shown out to the third decimal place.
Can you adjust your recorded position for lawback errors?

Pics look good. I wish I had wrecks to scan with my unit. Maybe soon

The unit is a Marine Sonic, most of those images were done with a 600 kHz fish.

The depth of the Vesta was only 17 feet, the other wreck was 55 feet.
The altitude of the fish was varied, I did not have an altitude reading because I didn't have the depth recorder (Furuno) tied into it. I'm trying to resolve some cableing issues.

It has it's own DGPS, the layback can be adjusted. It can display the Lat/lon of the boat, the fish, and if you mouse click on a specific point it will give you slant range info, and lat/lon of that point.

These are not that great of pictures compared to what it can do. The ones with the diver you can see some distortion where the boat was turned during the pass and some heave distortions due to heading directly into the swells. Also, the Vesta scan you can see at the bottom of the image where the boat was turned and the bow got distorted, and then only one channel was selected. The blurry part in the middle of the Vesta is actually nets that have snagged on the wreck. We got some better images using just one channel of the fish, but when I go to change the file type into something I can post here the images get funky, I need to sort this out.

Scott, yes one is a 300 kHz fish for longer range stuff i.e. 1/4 mile swath, and the other is a 600 kHz for detailed high resolution stuff but shorter range 1/8 mile swath. You only drag one at a time. Robert was the diver, he actually heard the thing when it went by him.

Here's a one sided shot of the Vesta. Its still a little blurry, I haven't filtered it. You can see the shrimp nets over the center portion.

Brad,

I want to go back and dive this one. I know it was salvaged, but there should still be some pretty interesting artifacts. The forward part of the wreck looks pretty clean.

Since its uncharted and the dive charters stay away from it, its probably not picked clean.

Who's up for it?

Robert

Now Scott, this is not Florida diving! ::) When we passed over this site on Saturday the color of the water was Coffee and vis was maybe 1-2 ft. ;)

Are you sure you're up for some Braille Diving?

The depth is only about 17-20', but finding a day when the vis is good will be the challenge. Its right near the Inlet and the brackish water empties out and makes the visibility horrible. I enjoy this kind of challenge, but I sure do like the diving we did down there.

But if you are up this way, we have some pretty cool dives!

No Robert, I think you are right. I am slightly claustrophobic and don't care for dirty water diving. The side scans had such great resolution I just assumed the water was clear. I will just have to wait til you guys come down again to get together.
