    Spanish ships on the Mississippi

I once read a story of three Spanish ships being chased up the Mississppi by the French. They later landed and met up with some indians that showed them the location of a very rich silver mine. The story goes on to state that they put all the ships cargo into some caves. Does anyone know of a good source where I can read this story again. Or have any of you done any research on this. Thanks...Matt (mlaytonus@yahoo.com)

Maybe the Spanish used sorts of scouts & such that were dispatched up river, for exploring. Or even given chase to pirates... or from..

    Intresting,

try looking for a local museum, I've learned so much about the history of my area just by going down to our town museum. Maybe they will be able to direct you to a good source, if they can't help you directly.
