I made it back down to Panama on Saturday after a 10 day trip back home to Florida for the Annual Treasure Hunters Cookout. It sure was good to see so many of my old treasure hunting friends again, and an opportunity to meet a bunch of folks for the first time. Chuck and Ann did an outstanding job putting the event together again this year, and I think they had a record year for attendance. In addition, it was good to see so many of the legends in the business in attendance this year.

After a couple of days of rest at my apartment here in Panama City, I am back on the road again this morning. Today I'm driving up to Costa Rica so I can re-set the Visa on my Blazer, a ritual I have to do every 90 days to keep my truck legal in this country. Once that task is completed, I can turn my attention onto our next adventure back into the Darien Gap.

Still in Panama? While there in Panama in the '80s we've seen onion skin whiskey flasks that were dove up off the town. Black water diving for sure. Did most of our diving locally there on the wreck out on the reef to the north of town. No treasure per se but recovered a broken piece of eight in nice shape dated 1808? Was a perfect matching tear between the 2 halves and gave one each to our parents. Our Mom treasure it. Good memories. Bob

Bob- I've heard legends about the onion skin bottles in Panama. Apparently, they are virtually impossible to find on land as they weren't built durable enough to withstand the weight of land and elements in Panama. However, I have heard that one has a much better chance finding one in water. It's definitely one I am on the look out for when I venture to the Isthmus. You were very fortunate to work there in the 80s when you could explore the Canal Zone in relative safety and not be bothered; nowadays, one must be quite vigilant both in terms of petty crime and the archies protecting everything.

Yesterday I made reservations to fly back up to Melbourne for a two week vacation at my home on the Space Coast. Coincidentally that puts me in Florida on the 30th, so I will be definatly attending the 8th Annual Treasure Hunters Cookout this year, so I'm looking forward to seeing many of you there again this year.

Doing good down this way and and staying very busy. Now I'm just looking forward to getting home into the cooler temperatures of Florida. With some luck the dry season will be over by the time I head back down this way. Hopefully the rain will soften up the ground a little bit.

Yea, it's been brutal this year with lot's of forest fires and high winds so yes, Florida temperatures will be a welcome relief.

There is no real respite from the heat/humidity in the tropics. If there is an antiperspirant that works in that kind of heat it would have to contain a very small air conditioner.
Shhhhh.....Don't tell anyone, but I hear on the bamboo telegraph that Tommy is really down there doing sweat gland conditioning for a trip to the surface of the sun (where it is fractionally hotter).

8-)
<<reference to the picture of Portobelo bay>>

"Headin' south to Paraguay
Where the gauchos sing and shout
Now he's stuck in Porto Bello
Since his money all ran out
So he hangs out with the sailors
Might and day they're raisin' hell
And his original destination's just another
Story that he loves to tell."

Ya, the sun, heat and humidity is part of life down "south" ………….when it is a day too hot, I recall the cold and snow of upstate NY and then it does not seem so hot anymore….

I watched snow flurries here yesterday, this morning the back deck was all white. I'm ready for the warm temperature days to arrive.
