Hello all,
I was working the surf-line wet sand Wednesday when I ran across this interesting Relic. On my first pass using my Garrett Infinium LS, I knew for sure it was iron but it was such a strong hit, I decided to dig it any way.

At that point it was in wet sand that was in & out of the shore break wash. I dug for it for about 15-minutes and still couldn't reach it. It was DEEP! So I visually marked it and kept moving down the beach. My plan was to try again when I returned back in about 1-1/2hrs, right at low tide.

When I got back to it, the tide had receded enough that it only took three deep scoops to reach it. When it was out of the hole, I looked it over and it's unlike anything I've seen before. Definitely Iron and heavy (126gms).

Could it possibly be an ancient ship's spike?
Jerry

Too small, but it's shaped like an old war club. Keep it soaked in water or else it will fall apart quickly.

There are literally tons of rusted iron junk on our beaches. Most is totally unindentifiable like yours. Parts of old docks, boats, houses, factories from all over the world wash up on beaches, rot away, and leave iron fastening remains. There is no way to tell what your piece is or whence it came. Not trying to belittle your find but if I found it I'd toss it in the trash just like all the other rusty iron junk I find with my detector.
