As I was doing my evening meditations searching Craiglist on one screen and trying to write a report on the other, I happened across this vessel.
FantaSea, out of Dania Beach, FL.
76 feet of aluminum awesomeness by Burger Yachts...and it's not your average yacht by a good stretch.
To quote the ad:

Looking at the last picture, I have no earthly idea how they raise and lower those blowers, but I do love the idea of the thing!

Looks like the blowers are just sitting on blocks and not attached yet.

Not sure how they will be able to swing the blowers out of the way when not anchored, unless divers have to install/remove in place, maybe with a deck crane?

rope, exactly... no way the blowers are actually fitted that way. What is shown is not long enough downward to do anything.

Nope...I have no idea how you'd set up a swing setup for those blowers. Kym and I were just looking at this and the only thing we can figure out is... on the old Explorer 1 (a Vietnam era jet drive river boat that Roy Volker had and Kym ran) they weren't hinged either. You lowered the blowers over the side and the lucky diver that wanted to be first in the hole bolted them to the jet drive housings.
Looking at the pictures, I cannot figure out where you would put all the associated gear to raise and lower the blowers except on that miles-long foredeck and then you have to have anchor setups fore and aft, an easily deployed anchor boat, etc.
I'd love to hear from someone who has seen it, worked on it or just has recent pics...cause I don't get it.

I see a big mistake. The blower should be at least one to two inches behind the props or else the blower will collapse.

Those props would rip the whole shebang across the bottom of that hull within first throttle up.

Working on them and not completed is an understatement.

Not only is this very simple plan very complicated in this situation...
BUT...
There is a whole lot more this guy is lacking and missing.

Fire that up and this guy is in for a rude awakening in physics.

I merely presented the Craigslist advertisement.
The blowers on my Carib are 32" in diameter and are made from 0.250 aluminum sheet. Those wheels are probably around 36" diameter on 2.5 to 3" shafts. The material is at least 0.250" thick if you compare what mine looks like compared to this.
I fail to see how the owner would benefit from misrepresenting his vessel. I would guess that someone with enough expendable income to be serious about spending $800,000 on a 50 year old vessel would be smart enough to look at the boat before they transferred the funds, therefore I would have to disagree about any 'scam' aspect. The BoatTrader ad says it just underwent a complete refurb...the blowers may not be a part of the present configuration.
Since my wife is a yacht charter broker, I have to be at the Palm Beach Boat Show this weekend. Maybe I'll run by and look at it. I'd love to see how their blower setup works. I am quite sure that the mock up pictures in the ad are not indicative of the work done. The price is not out of line for the size and quality of the boat, Burger being a well-respected builder and the level of fit and finish in the pictures of the boat is excellent.

Bargain shoppers don't buy a lot of Burger Yachts in that condition.
Actually, for a crewed yacht charter on a boat that size and that condition (if they have a good chef), is a pretty good buy according to the woman whose office is about 18 feet away and can hear me type...although she thinks the cabins are a bit small.
Anyway...it really doesn't matter...I merely thought it was a cool boat, I was not suggesting anyone clear out their piggy bank
