few folks know that at least once yearly (sometime more often) -- a semi container full of "freshly minted" US money is shipped to San Juan PR from the US mainland to replace worn out bills from PR ---its the modern day equal of the old Spanish treasure fleet basically --a vast sum of money being shipped by sea --just paper money instead of gold or silver --the container has a tracking system installed to help locate it in case of loss or theft ...and its stowed deep within the massive amounts of cargo containers in such a way that you can not access it to open its doors (to prevent any attempts at tampering with it )...the El Faro might have been carrying such a cargo --because it was quickly found in deep waters -- why else would they do a search for 40 year old ship with WW2 era type "open lifeboats" lost in 120 mph winds and 30 ft or more seas? the crew would have had a "0" % chance of surviving such a storm under those conditions ...and I say that as a 27 year merchant seaman who saiedl those old "rust bucket" vessels on that exactly run fairly often (Jacksonville to San Juan)--- of course the Govt would never speak publically about the "cash cube" being on the vessel ---because if it was recovered by a salvage company off a merchant ship --it would cost the got a ass load of money --if however the us navy recovered it --it would cost them zippo ...note it was a US naval vessel that found the El Faro and the navy has specialized deep water recovery op type vessels (mainly for In case of a nuke sub screw up in deep waters ) but it could be used to recover the "cash cube" I would think ----the Glomar explorer --is a exact case ---it was touted as a oil exploration vessel but in fact was used to try to recover a sunken Russian sub for "research" by US intel folks
