Ship Bell Found

The thing I find interesting is that this bell of topic of this thread, in my list of bells lost, there is one ship that matches the Santa Maria's size. The ship should be a NAO exactly like the Santa Maria, from same time period.

I have to point something out here on this...

I will point out...everyone equates CC with 1492 ... when in fact there were THREE OTHER voyages.

IN the years 1493... 1498 and 1502... WHICH... COULD put a bell on A CC ship... beings several were lost.

Um... btw... when I "throw a bone"...

location has a larger import than dimensions? still, the bell's size and the boat's size are probably related
how common was the use of plain ship's bells?

don't know much about Aztec art, but I know of no cast copper so large.
should the bell have the age it might, there were no missions to oversee mining - that came a bit later after the killing and looting

I have been searching an Aztec or incan connection and had the same thoughts as you. I'm am also not convinced that this is a ships bell but I am split on weather it's a ships bell, mission bell, or even a plantation bell. A size indication would help alot.

1554

Two naos were lost on the coast of Florida

San Estevan, 220 tons, Captain Francisco del Mecerno (spelled Mercesno in another document), coming from Mexico; and Sancta Maria de Yciar. 220 tons, Captain Alonso Ozosi, owned by Miguel de Jaurequi, coming from Mexico. Both may have been two of those mentioned in above. Source: Real Academia de Ia Historia, Madrid, Coleccion Mufloz, tomo 17. 87, f. 139.

The ship of Farfan (probably its owner)
It sank near Ais, richly ladened with gold and silver, and the Indians of the King of Ais recovered a great deal from the wreck. This wreck is possibly the San Estevan mentioned above, but it could be an entirely different shipwreck. Source: Col. Nay., T. XVI, #1086, f. 359.

1555 No Name
Several ships of the Flota de Tierra Firme commanded by Cosine Rodriquez Farfan (possibly the same Farfan mentioned above) were separated from the convoy soon after entering the Bahama Channel after a storm hit the convoy, and were never heard of again. Although the document is dated 1555, it is possible that it occurred in 1554 and the San Estevan (see above) was one of these missing ships. The two naos mentioned above could not have been two of his missing ships, as they were coming from Mexico, unless they were incorporated into his flota in Havana. Now a story by a old Bahamian living on Moores Island told me about a old hull that the only thing sticking above the water was the tip of the bow at low tide in a sand bank off the Bahama Channel. No one knew of where the ship came from and locals called it old Hull bank. He told me of an American who was in a sailboat that was poking around the old wreck. One day after he had been diving the sailboat raised its sails and has never been seen again. This wreck is very close to the Tumbaga wreck site. Locals believe he found gold because one islander saw it.
Another dive happened a couple years ago when the ship Atlantis II was contracted to test new 2 and 3 man subs in the north side of the channel off Freeport, Bahamas. I put together a video of the test for a friend.
