Mercury sitting in water shouldnt bother anyone that took 3rd grade science.

mercury was used on the gold refining process --it would cling to the gold and was later burnt off .. the mercury clung to gold letting folks know what was gold and they sorted it out based upon the mercury clinging to it --then they put it into a hot fire burning off the mercury --the fumes from doing this was very toxic --killing the slaves used to do this over time --thus the need for lots of slaves to do the work yes they used it to kill off VD by inserting it into the mens unit with a crude form on needle as well

My point is what shipwrecks does Spain have on the list? Is it only ones with gold and silver on board? Or are they interested in cleaning up all(by the ton) mercury they have dumped in the ocean. If you want to understand the problem it causes and amounts, just read some of the earlier references from academics posted by BB.
