It depends on the location of the wreck. If it?s in International waters or in the territorial waters of a sovereign nation you will need a lawyer whom specializes in International Maritime Law. If it?s in US waters, it will depend on the state you are in, and you will still need that lawyer. In the alternative, if you have little experience in these matters and little in the way of resources for a salvage operation you can always take a chance and work a deal with an established shipwreck salvage company.
