in 1711 while the war was raging ( 1701 -1714) the nao class merchant vessel "Nuestra Senora del Rosiaro Y San Cristobal" ---"our lady of the rosary and st christopher" (in english )---- was attempting to run from havana, cuba to spain --according to the records --she wrecked at 30 degrees 20 min -- which today is about where the modern day jacksonville , florida pier is --- the new pier replaced an old pier -- word has it that when the old pier was built long ago that the pier builders hit wooden ship remains * while they were building the old pier, ---- Ivan

its appears also in "shipwrecks of florida" by steven d. singer -- who sites all his sources of information in his book *( in this case he list bob marx book " spanish treasures in floridas waters, a billion dollar graveyard copyright 1979"--also later reprinted as "shipwrecks in florida waters, a billion dollar grave yard " ( it basically was the section about florida lifted out of the "shipwrecks in the americans" book printed up with the focus on florida * only with referances as to source of information *---AGI , Contratacion , legajo 2901 in this case) what I do like about singers book is for each listing in his book so you can do father research yourself on it via his referances -- however with the much larger bob marx book "shipwrecks in the americas" you get a snippet of info but no leads as to the source where the info came from for you to do farther research on your own. --- so strictly from a research stand point on florida based shipwrecks marx "ship wrecks in florida waters" a thin paperback back is more useful since it cites the "sources"where the larger and more costly "shipwrecks in the america" does not. -- however the "shipwrecks in the americas" does have things about wreckage and pottery IDing that is highly useful

all I was adding is that 30 degrees 20 min is where the jacksonville , florida pier is now and that when the old pier was built long ago that the builders were reported to have hit old wooden ship remains -- the rest who knows? Ivan

Builders and cities in florida have had a habit on building piers and beach road ramps and buildings on top of historic shipwrecks for well over 60 years.A prime example is the 3rd ave shipwreck in new smyrna beach.Also at the 27th street ramp theres a wreck under it.Also near ponce inlet theres a large condo thats built on top of a wreck.Rather than tell anyone about the wreck for fear of prolonging thier building or not being able to build at all.they just dont say anything and build it anyway.Then many years later you hear stories from workers that there was a wreck there.Too late for anyone to do anything about it.And of course theres payoffs to building code inspectors to keep quiet about these things and i would imagine city offcials as well.Cities and the state of florida has destroyed alot of wrecks that no one will ever see or hear about by letting contractors build on top of them.Someone wasnt doing thier job to preserve history.And now the state wants to shut down shipwreck salvors that make history availible to the public?

Having found a complete keel on the beach and being told by state "professionals" it was a bridge timber, I'm a little short on respect for the gubment right now. Some (most?) of these guys are totally out of touch with reality.

humm to be bridge timber on the beach ---- the "bridge" had to go some where did it not?--(to go across the atlantic ocean it must be a very very big bridge )

being on the beach the find (treasure) was fair game for you to get at --so how else to stop you from going for it -- tell you its a bridge beam thats how --- hope you checked the site out properly anyway.

It was called( Nuestra senora del rosario y sanitago apostol) found pensacola bay..I was just thinking about the travel and the timeline of the two ships /and storms, hurricanes that hit the coast of fl..

Nuestra Senora del Rosario (our lady of the roseary) was a common used "religious name esp when used with a "Y" (and) along wiith some saints name -- just about all of the spanish vessels of that time frame had a "religious name" for "protection" against sea perils --- they would also have a "offical name " --so two names was normal and often they had "nick names" -- as well --- so three names being used for one vessel was not uncommon in the old days. -- needlkess to say this can lead to lots of confusion of course

the 7 year time span between the two vessels mean its unlikely they are related -- the similar naming of "Nuestra Senora del Rosario" means little as it was a very commonly on many vessels .
