wood piece found

Found this piece of wood at the beach last week near the surf. Is it part of anything old?

Yep, it is part of an old tree. Shipwreck wood is a strange art. Most guys have to touch it and poke it and sniff it before making a guess as to it's age, origin, or purpose. Your piece certainly looks interesting, but I know I'd hate to hazard a guess. I've handled enough to make pretty good guesses, but not from a photograph.

Looks like driftwood.This is what shipwreck wood looks like exposed on the beach.
