Yep, it is part of an old tree. :D Shipwreck wood is a strange art. Most guys have to touch it and poke it and sniff it before making a guess as to it's age, origin, or purpose. Your piece certainly looks interesting, but I know I'd hate to hazard a guess. I've handled enough to make pretty good guesses, but not from a photograph.
