A edible mushroom; this one was kinda small,.only about 2 pounds...they get to be up to a foot across! Usually dried and sold by the ounce to restaurants. We ate this one sauteed in butter with onions and garlic.

First pic, 13.5 ounce quartz cobble, about 7/8th size baseball, specific gravity test
shows about 3.25 ounces gold - found in loose overburden 2 feet down from surface while dredging with Keene 4 inch. Spotted it before it entered suction nozzle, or it would probably rolled right on through due to amount of quartz. Second pic - after spotting a 2 dwt "baker" lodged in a large vertical pressure
crevice, we spent a month trying to reach bedrock. Water was 2 feet deep, then 8 feet of large loose cobbles and boulders up to a thousand lbs. When
we finally hit bedrock there was the gold, laying in a little trough parallel with the current. it took about 3 days to advance a foot on bedrock due to big and unstable boulders trying to slide into the hole. The gold ran out in ten feet but it was sure fun while it lasted! Pic is a portion of my share.

I had a spot just like that, and there is still gold down there. No matter what I did I couldnt clear out the cobble to stabilize the hole, never have had such a perfect storm like that hole was......took out 5 ounces though

I remember seeing the crystal thread, but the gold piece was the one I was in love with. Nice finds, both

My best find to date, , found the pile of them this past weekend while prospecting. Out in this beautiful river canyon I found the kind of gold that fills the heart and spirit with Joy! This is the view from my little tent Saturday morning. And then back in 2010 I had the pleasure of detecting, panning, sluicing out this ole heavy stuff that I don't even know why I bothered with it as it is quite heavy to carry out.
Hey Oakview2, I hope your thread catches on!! All the best...........63bkpkr

Great finds herb, tasty berries, a view to die for and oh yeah some of that yellow stuff. I hope it catches on as well. Pville hunter mentioned that the board was getting clogged up with all the negative news, and I have to agree that I found myself participating in those threads. I thought this might change tenor of the board. I got to thinking that I would much rather read about finds, strategies, equipment, anything but all the negative buearcratic stuff. So bring on the unusual, the usual, the artifacts, scenery, whatever...

ist pic - That's me in the beginning(mid 1980's) with a homemade screen classifier
on a BIG dry gravel bar on South Yuba River. I had a daily goal of 20 buckets of screened material. 2nd pic - one of many weekly receipts i accumulated
over a two year period while living on the river.
