4" Dalke Original Compact Dredge, 36" BGT Prospector, 30" BGT Sniper, D&D/Brawn Super Concentrator and Highbanker top, Brawn/D&D finishing table, pans and more!
Primary Interest:
Prospecting
Also, please, please note if you are in an area that calls out "hands and pans" only, do not break the rules, many of those areas are very tempting to grab your shovel and go to town, but the rules are in place for a reason, and if we break them, we are likely to loose the rights to dig there period. You will be in an area that has lots of rules and regulations, make sure to do your research, knowing the rules is very important to becoming a great prospector, and will help keep you safe!

Cheers

I have that panning kit. its what i first bought and it has been more useful to me than any other equipment i own. A sluice is pointless if you cannot separate gold from black sand. Too bad the black sand isnt worth anything. You will find 400 times the amount of BS to gold...

I agree a pan is your first tool to master.....If you don't live where you can use it often you are wasting your money. I live five miles from Lotus if you are camping I can arrange for you to borrow a sluice and give you some pointers.

I've been busy dealing with the fire clearance on my property and appeasing my very pregnant wife this last week and haven't been on the forums much. A good friend of mine told me about this thread last night so I decided to check it out. GW is spot on, and if you have the time I'd recommend you take him up on learning some pointers. Coloma-Lotus is my hometown, and if you'd like to get around buying a pan or supplies on the internet, I can meet you at your camp or somewhere local and set you up.

Unless you plan to go there on a regular basis I'd just take a pan and shovel, a sluice is a fairly substantial investment for a single outing.

Craigslist is probably your best bet, or maybe you can find a used one in a local prospecting store.
Hate to see you burn cash on something you will want to upgrade later though.
Just sell your xbox and get that bazooka. No, really! You will get far more gold.
But best of luck either way!

I agree that the Gravity Trap Gold Panning Kit would work well for you. That was the first thing I bought and I still use it every time I go prospecting. For sluices, don't buy the e-z sluice. That was also my first sluice, but the flare bent within a few months and it is very hard to set up right. There is also WAY to much assay mat that could have been replaced with riffles and miners moss. I would recommend the Keene a51a or a51 if you have can scrape up enough money.

I had to chuckle at that one. He's probably horrified at the thought. :laughing7:

Great advise guys. You guys really know how to help a kid get started. Hopefully he will show his dad these posts.

You should talk to your parents about a Bazooka super mini then. I think they are $105 which is a little over your budget but they are non existent on the net on the used market. If you decided you did not like it you could get 90% of what you paid the first day you listed it. Contact Chris as he has already offered to meet you this weekend if need be.
