Hello everyone, as I am still a newbie at this I am looking for someone in the Denver metro area willing to show me a few of the basic ropes of the trade. I am planning a trip up there this Labor Day weekend. I have an AM sluice that I want to get dirty. If anyone is willing to help me out please just let me know when and where. I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thank you in advance.

Hey chris, you dont need a guide! Go to gold and detectors in Golden and Buy something. Once you have supported local business ask for a panning lesson from the owner. He has tubs and pans. He will gladly show you how to find gold in the canyon 5 min up the street.

Become one with the local yokels and the world opens up to you. Be it gem/mineral(best hunting west a the mississippi) gold, or relics you'll find a local club and NEVER underestimate the fantastic folks at the historical societies as the wisdom of the ages is there-John

Virtually anywhere on the Platte in town. 8th avenue, evans, 77th (Big Bend, more large cobble than you could ever dig in your life).
56th and youngsfield in wheatridge.

All of the places above have given me pretty good gold.
Best of luck, maybe I'll see you at one of these spots.

How is the prospecting in the springs? I hear you can find gold 15 miles south west of town there.
Best luck for big gold,
P70

I have not had any luck here in the springs yet. Where is the place you are talking about and I will check it out.

I had an unplanned freak chance to get out for a couple hours yesterday. I couldnt believe how much lower the platte was. At least 2 1/2 feet since I got out last a couple of weeks ago.
Yay winter is coming!

Awesome day for me. Thank you everyone for the tips. Got a few colors in the sluice today. Showed up really well on my diy miller table. Will post some pictures once I figure out how to do so....lol

Thank you Kevin, my phone performed a spectacular swan dive off of my lap shortly after posting my results. Still haven't got it replaced yet. Will post the pictures as soon as I can.

Found 4 small flakes in the last half bucket I ran, got in to that clay layer you mentioned on my last bucket. Will post pics this evening. Dig deeper and faster apparently...:). Planning on heading up again this weekend. Now that I know what I am looking for and have a better idea how to get it I should do better.
