Almost lol. My buddy and i went sluicing today back to the hole where he found the 2.2 gram nugget. Look at the hole just left of his hand that's where i was digging now look directly above the hole you will see a large rock, it weighs approx 40-50 lbs my head was in the hole scooping the gravel out when all of a sudden i hear gravel coming down, thank God i jerked my head out of the way, God only knows what damage it would of did to my noggin.Thats me on the right.

Some times deeper is not better. You might think about spreading out. I would check the side of the hole and if I saw layering I would test where I saw a transition from small gravel to what ever it is resting on which could act as a false bedrock pay layer.
Heavy pans.

After seeing that large boulder come slamming down, i might go to the new spot i started digging at. I found 16 specks for 2 hours work its about 20ft to the right of where my buddy is digging.

You have to sample sample sample, if your ass aint jiggling you aint panning. 18 specks isn't ground worth sluicing. Pan everywhere until you find a nice spot that makes you say "oh damn" then get the sluice out of the truck. Keep panning as you sluice, I have seen a rainbow of colors of clay in one area with varying degrees of color I wouldn't know the definitive difference if I didn't sample pan.

I think its well worth sluicing, i found my first picker out of that hole my buddy also found 3 nice pickers ample flakes, specks and would you look at this!!! a nice 2.2 gram nugget that was stuck in a fist sized quartz along with 2 other nice sized smaller nuggets. The Gold is there that's what counts. We have 20 acres that we are in the process of claiming.

Good thing some kids were not playing in that hole while you were gone..you might have come back to find feet sticking out. I know someone that had a boulder fall on his leg. Was trapped for hours. Had to be flown out and ended up breaking every bone in his foot.

Meh, dig deeper holes.

The feets don't stick out when you do that.

What are you putting under the expanded metal in the sluice?
