I have never found conditions where I could shovel into my sluice. Have been classifying to 1/2 inch and shoveling some fine stuff also. Even so, the riffle section always loads up with stones. It is possible that any gold passing by would drop through the stones, but....

I made an easily removable lexan plate to go over the riffles. It stands 3/4 " over the riffles. Even in my old A-52 the riffles are NOT supposed to load up. I like seeing the fines dancing behind the riffles and seeing the red garnet building up there. If the garnet is building up there, so must be any gold.

Please let me have any opinions. Thanks

build up means too low of flow and or drop.

I run bank run material through these style boxes and get great recovery.

Flat rock can lay between riffles. I actually have one with only medium size expanded metal and a few riffles at the end helps keep material moving.

In NY you may just want to run the punch plate a little farther down the sluice
