    Re: Need Help to Id

Ugh. They dont look right. First thing I noticed on the first coin is that the two lions dont match. The cross is also funny in the center. Look at the "8" on the back side. (coin is upside down) The loops dont connect. ..theres more...I think some Mexican may have hand carved a mold. They may be some kind of cast homeade counterfeits or jewelry. Are they silver? The loop on the one appears as a jewelry piece. ...curious pieces.

I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines.  I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

They are all representing Jerusalem Cross, Pillars and Waves type New World Cobs. They are not Mexican.
The first cob (top left) is an 8 reale and is right side up. The back side (second pic) should have the waves on the bottom.

I cropped and resized for you.

Were they all purchased together in Mexico?

Were they bought in the 40's or 50's?

Can I see an edge pic?

They are interesting curiousity pieces. There are many obvious differences from real cobs. I dont know if they were purposely made this way to be legal or they are botched attempted counterfeits. They appear to be worn. The small one could be a jewelry piece. I hope someone else will voice their opinion. Thank you for sharing. I find these types of copies to be interesting.

ADDED: I think you mean g (grams) not kg.

Here is a real Pillars and Waves type cob (bottom pic) to compare to your 8 reale. I circled some areas of special concern. The top is the denomination. (8 reale) The bottom is the date. Notice the differences. There are many issues on this cob. http://www.newworldtreasures.com/cobs_potosi.htm
