Well seeing you are from Spain I can see where you wouldn't know where Pinellas County is, but it is on the West coat of Florida, the opposite side fromthe 1715 wrecks. A more obvious clue would be that the fake coin he showed is dated 1736.

Hangingfor8, it is sad that people would seed these fakes out on beaches, I would love to see all fakes outlawed.
When I purchased an Atocha coin a few years back, they threw in about 20 copy 8 reale's which had copy in small
on them and some gold escudos which did not. And as for people making copies and then selling on eBay, the same
law should apply if you were making counterfeit US dollars.

What happen in Florida is they're running out of real cobs on the field due many facts, one of them is Florida is over detected. Retired people detecting all time to post here all coins found, it's like a competition among themself. If you calculate a percentages of age of all treasure hunter detecting in Florida state, 75% or more are 65 or older, telling you they're retired with plenty time to detect on the beach.Only fewer are young with reduced time to detect.

Re: Fake Beach Cobs
I live in Pinellas county, Clearwater Beach area.
I would never anticipate finding a cob here or anything ship wreck related for that matter, as the gulf of Mexico really wasn't a path of the trading route like the east cost of Florida
Best bet in my area is the snow birds and spring breakers dropping their coins and bling

Ossy:
We do have a law that applies to fakes, reproductions, etc.
It's called the Hobby Protection Act. You might find Section 304.6 interesting: http://collectors.org/Library/Hobby_Protection_Act.asp

Although there were no known fleet disasters in the area, I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of finding cobs on the Florida gulf coast. I believe the original poster (Hangingfor8) made a find on that side. Finders are probably better off keeping their secrets. No sense callout out the masses.

Thanks Mackaydon, you now need a law to stop these clowns from seeding beaches, personally
I would like to see any reproductions outlawed.

Re: Fake Beach Cobs
Ossy:
I have no problem with reproductions manufactured in compliance with the law. All coins represents 'footprints of our past' and those of other cultures.
As such, replica coins can be an effective ("3-D") and relatively inexpensive method of teaching--and learning about--history.

Even though beaches are overdetected there is still plenty of treasure left but you wont find any on a crowded public beach on a calm Sunday afternoon. Most of these retired MDers arent finding any treasure; maybe some modern jewelry. You need a storm or hurricane for erosion to get to the deep stuff. These copies and replicas are being purchased and lost on the beaches by tourists and are often found by casual MDers. They are easy to spot because they are not gold or silver. They do get your heart pumping for a few seconds.
I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines. I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.

I found another fake the other day and I've come to the conclusion I don't mind them. They sort of brighten up the day and remind me of how exciting it can be. Plus, the little boy I gave it to thought it was "Cool"

Re: Fake Beach Cobs
take notes----the ealier time frame vessels did indeed run along the west coast of florida on the gulf side -- the earlist explorers used "dead reckoning " hugging the shore line from mexico --along what is modern day ---texas and louisana, mississippi alabama , then along the panhandle of florida down the west coast to the keys --- since they were using "known" unique land marks and river outlets to navigate by (dead reckoning) they were running close to land and sudden storms were deadly -- while there may not have been as many "recorded" wrecks numbers wize on the west coast as the east coast (mainly because the indains peoples of the west coast area perrty much killed strangers on sight thus leaving no one left alive to tale the tale of where and how they wrecked)-- however you can bet they had lots of treasure on them
personally I do think the west coast / panhandle area of florida offers some of the best chances to find a "unknown" new major treasure wreck find.
few people have really searched the west coast well -- just about everyone has focused all their time and energy on the east coast area of florida
