Its got to be a fantasy piece and must be some kind of special edition to bring so much. I sent an Email to Ernie Richards, who coauthored a book on Spanish treasure bars. I'll report back his answer. Interesting.....

You came out good on this coin. The assayer was Francisco de Morales. Yours was minted during the rein of Philip III, so it is no earlier than 1598. The way I can tell it is Philip III and not Philip II (since your last "I" is not legible) is by the shape of the base of the crown (reference Menzel page 87). It is also no later than 1607, as this is when they started putting dates on them. Yours has the end of the word "GRATIA" in the obverse legend where the date was subsequently added and "DEI GRATIA" was abbreviated to "DEI G" in order to fit on the coin.

Hi Jerome. That is a type that is frequently copied, but I can't find that particular one in the Sedwick fakes database. Perhaps Big Cypress can look through hos "OMP" cons for a match. Of course, it may end up being a decent deal. Have you found any more coins recently yourself? Also, did you find the plastic coin storage items you were looking for?
