1618 San Martin Wreck-site (1 Real) and die similarity.

Thought I would post a cob that I found back in 96'...it was found at the Green Cabin wreck-site...1618 San Martin site. If you all remember the old Australian Pines and the old foundation you'll know the area were this cob came from...I actually found it one a day when we had no storms or erosion, I was just starting out detecting and I worked the areas on a daily basis (erosion or not), just to gain knowledge and experience of the area and adjacent beach accesses...when I found it I tossed in my velcro mess bag with the rest of the coins (modern) that I found from working the beaches that day...I actually thought it was quarter at first.
It's not really anything exciting but I thought I would share why this cob always stood out to me...first it was from the San Martin site...I have found only 2 cobs from this area...this one and an 8 reales found within a 100 yards of this one.
Back to why I love this little coin..it is because of the details on the cob that caught my eye, they look so "cheap"... skinny lions w/ dancing pig legs, they don't even resemble lions...the castles so tiny and plain, and the skinny cross. I have seen no other cob which had similar "cheesy" details as much as this one...and I looked for years, always had my eyes looking to find anything that was from the same die...
until 2 weeks ago, I found the matching die used, I feel it is...at least for the (reverse) cross side some designs were carried over...which in itself is not unusual.
I really think this (reverse) die (cross) was used for both these cobs...I will post other side which holds some more cool details.

Looks pretty close to me. Very cool Trez. I also remember the Australian pine and the old house foundation. There used to be a path from A1A down to the beach there. I got stuck once driving back there to go beach diving. Tom

Here is the obverse...shield side of the San Martin cob. The shield designs are much more different and the cob on the right has the denomination over assayer on the left side of shield with the mint mark M to the right of the shield, something I haven't seen.
Great little cobs...and the San Martin cob on the left...those are hard to find now.

I remember finding the foundation and you identified it for me as the Green Cabin. Cant drive there any more. I believe one of the Australian Pines is still there and the path from AIA is also still there. Most of the foundation washed down onto the beach and is under the sand at the surfline. I saw it one year at low tide- a cemented together foundation section of concrete blocks. Right there where people walk! It is now buried. Its amazing how quickly the sands can swallow something up.

Trez the lions do look funky. Its amazing the more I learn, the less I realize I know about cobs.

Here is a pic of the remaining foundation after hurricane Wilma. After Francis that cut was so high, I had to shimmy down an Australian Pine toppled over.

I live in a state of rules where I am not permitted to live on my own country land because my home is not 130 MPH rated! I can only visit it from time to time and pay the fines.  I feel so safe with Big Government protecting me. In some states its illegal to collect rainwater.
