Especially on a a heavily detected treasure beach when there is no coin line (beach cut). Due to the edge looking cast I would say replica.

Thank you for your comments. However I have a couple questions:

1) How can I be sure it's a replica? Any ideas were a « genuine » piece like this one would have been minted and what year?
2) It`s weigh is approximately 35 gm. Is this an indicator of some sort?
3) Any premium for a replica like this one? And if it's a Spanish gold Escudo?

Regards

for me condition is suspect.
Looks too new to me.
details too sharp.
But I could be completely wrong .
35 gm sounds pretty heavy to me,
meaning real gold, But I'll sit back from here &
let an expert reply

Escudos and any other cob coin were struck.
That piece shows a mold seam almost all the way around.
That's just one thing that sticks out.

Did you do an acid test?

I have several silver ones I have acquired over the years, while none are gold, none have the ridge this one has, it appears to have been cast......

Just my opinion.....

It's also not a very good one.

Grolux,
Welcome to Treasure Net !
The prescribed weight for an 8 escudos gold coin (or an 8 reales silver coin) was between 27.1 and 27.5 grams.
Yours, at 35 grams far exceeds the norm.
IMO it's a replica.

OK Guys, I would like to close this post with the accurate information.

My digital scale was out of calibration and the correct weight should have been: 16.37 gm.

Thanks for your interest.
