Hello, Came across this coin that looks like it might be a doubloon. Looks like there is the crusader cross on one side and what looks like a bough of a boat. Also found some Spanish Reales from late 1700's site.......Thanks..........john
Sierra,
Welcome to Treasure Net !!
If it were an escudo, it's diameter would be about 24 mm (compared to the dime at about 18 mm), it would weigh 6.77 grams and be composed of gold. Personally, I don't recognize the piece as an escudo nor do I recognize it as even a coin. Is is made of gold?
How did you come upon this 'coin'? Dug, purchased or gifted?
Don.....
I would have to say you are correct about it being lead and a Bale seal. Would be nice to know the history about it and I wonder if it is a cloth seal.........John
They can offer some info.
They are very collectable also.
Its a nice find and sounds like you are in a real good area.
Best of luck to you..please post some of your finds in one of the forums.
Definitely the coins.
This Seems to "Ponderal or weight". This is a piece that was used to weigh on a scale.
This was used to minting coins. It adjusted the material weight with those objects (silver, gold, etc)
The shield or markings on their sides are to see the kind of coins.
