I spent some time on Labor Day going through the labor intensive process of pulling my Spanish silver finds out of at least 12 different site specific display cases, marking the undersides to identify what case they belong to, and getting everyone to stand still for a group photo. All of these were dug in Southwestern Pennsylvania except two cut pistareens that were found near Culpeper, VA.

Only 2 cobs. Wow. Makes me feel better that my only Spanish is a cob. Impressive collection

Sorry but it would only allow me to give the post one Like but I wanted to give one for each coin! If all but two of the coins were found in Southwestern Pennsylvania, can you tell me why? Was this an important Trade Route or a jumping off point before crossing or navigating by boat, the Ohio or Monongahela Rivers? Very impress finds and collection and thanks for sharing!

Southwestern PA is my main area to hunt, and I have done well at tavern sites along the early travel routes to and from Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh was an important destination for travelers heading down the Ohio

You are lucky to be able to hunt such locations! Down this way, any trails...roads...tavern sites or anything else with historical significance, gets designated as Historical Sites/Places and are totally off-limits to any metal detecting. We have Davy Crockett's Birthplace...Homeplace and Tavern Site near me, Samuel "Sam" Houston's School and Home very close by, Daniel Boone's Tavern not far from here as well as many more historically significant sites.

Really a nice grouping, numismatically... The star is that half-cut of a pillar-style 8 Reales. You see eighth-cuts and quarter-cuts of pillars, and some half-cuts of portrait-style 8R, but not often a halved pillar 8R.

Thanks RealesWatcher. I didn't realize that was an particularly unusual cut. Do the cut pieces have numismatic value, and if so do you have an idea what the half cut Pillars 8R would be worth?
