    Blanca, Marevedi or????

I was out Sunday - Northeastern MA -. Cross cutting between old stone walls. Area - Heavy woods now, but I believe it used to be old fields. Entire area was first settled around 1639. I hit for copper and start digging. Get down about 9 inches and pull up this. I compared it to a post found way down in this area and it looks similiar to a blanca or marevedi. I know it is in rough shape, but there are some markings which appear to be visible. I had my buddy swing over it and he got for copper also. It is pretty heavy and about the size of a 50 cent piece. Any insight or help would be appreciated. Also if it is, what I think, is it normal to find this sort of thing in this area?

The bottom picture, when compared to image 3 on the following post looks similiar. The area I was referring to is slightly to the upper right of center on the second image of my post. Although like I had stated, mine appears to be larger.

    Nice find!

The Blanca was a 1/2 Maravedi.

There were several variations of these coins. Your coin looks Spanish and could very well be a Blanca. These coins were widely circulated in Spain and could've been brought to New England (via pirate ship).
