Recent Treasure 1715 cob found

This past week was a good one overall...I had a blast seeing some of the hard-core boys out swinging their 'ole dusty machines, but lots of new faces also, bummer.
I finally convinced my dad to get up out of his favorite recliner and dust off his Minelab XS and come out with us and have some fun...
I was leaving (Corrigan's) when he pulled up...showed him my measles Spanish finds and me trying to tell him where I found mine...off he went. He's in his 70s now and I was happy to see him get out and do what I know he loves to do. I get a call at work about an hour later...and he said he was having a blast and actually did pretty good for himself.........he found a beauty. I like to think of our hunting skills as we may not find alot, but when we do it's something pretty special and rare, this time was no different.
Enjoy the cob below...I will post pics of it in it's origional condition...obverse and reverse and when we have finished conservation of it.
I will let you tell me about why it is a rare piece

Nice 1697 Potosi CH momogram 8R, P41 (Sedwick ref.). Temporary assayer for 1697 only; Sebastian de Chavarria. I would be doing back flips. Really fantastic.

A Sebastian reale near real Sebastian so to speak.

Trez... I didn't know Bob was your Dad... spoke to him while he was taking pics of the 1800's period timber at Corrigan's. It was nice to meet him. He showed me the same pics on the beach the day I met him... excellent find! It's good to see the larger denoms coming up again!! All the best... Phips

I think your dad showed me that coin on the beach the day it was found. Nice coin. I talked to him a minute again before I left.

Is it really a "bummer" to see other out enjoying the same hobby as you do? Kind of sad really. How about it's cool to see other enjoying the same hobby as you assuming they do it in the same respectful way you do. Like don't trespass fill in your holes, remove garbage and have fun. That is of course on the assumption that you do those things.

I'm a third generation native who is fairly new to this but have grow up in the sun and sand and have had dreams of treasure all my life. Have found some stuff too. Is it a bummer to see me out there?

Sorry for the rant and I will be sure to wave and say hi if I ever see you on the beach. I'm easy to spot, I still have that beginner swing. Just can't get the rhythm down!

Some of those new faces are actually old faces that after decades of hunting the same old beaches and carefully maintaining their anonymity, for some reason stepped out of the shadows. ; )

Your dad came to my presenation today at FHS in Cocoa and showed me that coin!! Absolutly beautiful! Made my day. I was showing some Potosi cobs (waves up), then he showed me his Potosi (waves down!!) with Chavarria as the assayer! Cowabunga! What's the odds of finding such a tremendous specimen. The man has more than luck finding that one!!! I'll bet you were astounded when you got it cleaned up. Hold on to that cob!

I had planned on attending...I was really looking forward to this.
But, things around here have a tendency to change and fast.
I haven't heard the details yet but I am sure it was a great time to be had for all 1715 enthusiasts.

Thanks for your comments on the cob, it truly is a fantastic piece.
I have often said that cleaning these cobs can either help in revealing hidden details or cleaning can actually take away from the piece...and I think in this case we look back and tell ourselves we should have left it in it's natural found condition.
Cobs like this one (CH) are indeed rare to find... in any condition from our beach here.
He will cherish that cob...
