This one baffles me...So 1864-1942 & 1947-1962 1 cent pennies all weight the same (3.11 grams) and are of the same composition 95% copper, 5%Tin/Zinc. If I sweep across a 1908 IH in C & J with a 10 inch DD coil it reads +57 to +60 and pinpoints Red-Green-Blue, yet if I sweep across a 1909 Lincoln it reads +75/+76 and pinpoints Green-Red-Blue.

Another metal detector I have does the same thing as far as totally different ID numbers even tho they are exactly the same composition. Scratching my head.

Yep, I saw this in this video as well. I got the same results in the field. The older Indian's had nickel pre 1865, so I could understand a different VDI.

My best guess is the Indians have a higher copper ration than the mint reported? maybe 97%

Yep in some ground the IH's come up at 52 while the 2cent pieces come in at 55, not all ground though sometimes they can be about regular penny range. HH

all detectors I have used read indians way different than other one cent coins. both my mx sport and nox800 do this as well. a wheat ring up different from a indian and an copper lincoln slightly different than a wheat.

Indian head cents read as zincs around here. I use a VX3, but that wouldn’t make a difference, would it?
