Waterproof connectors for BHID coil wire

Hi all. anyone know of any waterproof connectors for converting the BHID coil wire so that you can change coils without going into the main control housing? i know for the Minelab units there are some aftermarket connectors. I really want to try a D2 coil on my BHID (for two reasons: 1- it should present less drag when hit by waves and 2- superior pinpointing) but am reluctant to dismantle the housing without a way to test it after i reassemble it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    John

Re: Waterproof connectors for BHID coil wire

I am currently looking for a good connector also. It must have a good IP rating (Ingress Protection). For good protection for temporary immersion in water up to 3 feet deep, use IP67. IP68 is good for long time immersion under greater pressure,
specified by the particular model. The real kicker is finding a SOLDERABLE IP68 quick connect set. I spent about 1 hour on line looking for this and kept bombing out. Close but not solderable. I am sure it's out there. Just google IP68 connectors and you will have a lot to look at. Lots of these are used for ocean work. If I find one I will post.

There is another way to do it. Make a waterproof junction box. There are waterproof die-cast junction boxes with covers held on by four screws. There are a good range of sizes. Drill two holes and insert the waterproof strain reliefs. See attached sketch. I think I might try this someday.

At White's, I'm looking at standardizing our next-gen water loops on the M12 connector. Ironically, that appears to be what Sunray is selling.

Re: Waterproof connectors for BHID coil wire

Used these this summer, in, out, under. Bulgin Mini's..IP68 ....you can get them at Digikey. Love them for the head phones (no problems)..but not the coil. This may sound crazy but it's like the signal was leaking out of the connection for the coil? You touch the connector it would false, hit by a wave or bumped, false. You do get use to it and it so little that not to bad to deal with. They do not leak, but I would not recommend them for underwater all the time. Will be Hardwiring all coils back this winter....
