The Rover UC metal detector is disguised as a walking stick and allows searching in areas where you couldn't with common detectors. Without arousing public interest and getting curious looks, you can scan places you never could scan before...

Problem is, it still seems suspicious to be poking a "walking stick" in odd places. Worse yet, if a person was using this to 'grid a park' a well-meaning observer might think they had happened upon a confused blind man and offer assistance.

The idea of an Android controlled MD is a cool one though. Imagine being able to write your own apps to tag GPS coords and such...

peace,

Using disguised metal detector to hunt areas off limits is a good way to get even more areas put off limits to us , it gives us a bad name, makes us look shady and justifies more laws against our hobby.

Yeah, the whole marketing angle is off. Comes across as if Metal Detecting is an illicit pursuit...

Just a regular old MD with Android enhancement would be hot!

cheers,

Still, it would be pretty sick to have an MD that could connect via hardwire or Bluetooth to a smartphone app for better ground signal readings like that. I'd be all for a standard MD that replaced a front display with an adjustable smartphone holder so you could mount whatever large-screen phone you wanted, and the MD would even power the phone. Think, you could use a Bluetooth headset with it, it'd work with the same principle that listening to music; when a call or text came in, a distinct beep would sound over your signal blips. I personally wouldn't mind carrying an extra few pounds for a larger power supply if the MD could do all that.

Just saying.
