I notice that when using my (Garrett) pin-pointer, if the coil is under 3 feet away from the hole I am digging, there is sometimes static heard in the headphones when the pinpointer is getting close to the coin.
The static starts in the headphone before the pointer vibrates or buzzes, suggesting there is some feedback from the pointer that is being picked up by the coil.

Anyone else notice this?

Very common, 2 metal detectors near...set each other off. One reason I stopped using a PP'er.
