    Infrared photo's or video

OK I got a new project that I need help on. I need to take In fared photo's or video [prefer video] of certain areas. Any help with links to products or equipment would be appreciated. They want Helium balloon platform for this but I'm thinking wind would be a great factor, I'm leaning to more modern equipment like RC Helicopter or plane. I do need a good in fared setup to begin with what ever. Would like to come up with a portable setup that would allow me freedom of movement, downloading to a laptop for instant viewing, and recording. Any Idea's Thanks. Anyone wih Drone info could help me a lot.

    Re: Infrared photo's or video

What you are looking for is an infrared camera. Google "infrared camera" (spelling is important) and you will come up with a bunch of hits.

FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) is a leader in the industry. From what I have seen of the IR cameras at trade shows you can take video or still shots and download them to your computer. They are not cheap (~$3,000 to ~$10,000 last time I checked).

I am a home inspector and I know FLIR and some of their competition are targeting home inspectors for their products (moisture behind walls, omitted insulation, etc.). Call a few home inspectors and see if they know of an inspector in your area that uses an infrared camera. You may be able to hire him or rent the camera from him.

Good luck. (I don't think I would rent my IR camera to anyone to hang from a RC helo or plane - that is if I owned one.)

    Hey Dano,

As a Charter member - you have access to some info in the Articles forum.

    I hope that helps.

Probably just charter a small plane and fly low and slow. (that's what I did )

What resolution, spatial and temporal requirements do you have.
You can access Satellite IR imagery with resolutions down below 15 meters.
I have used inexpensive B/W video camera with IR filter to get some nice IR video images.

Are you looking at thermal IR?

    nfunk:

Would you share with the group details of your IR setup? Could you possibly
post an example pic of one or two of your photos?

I would be interested if no one else is

    Re: Infrared photo's or video

Well it looks like I have a lot of choices. I'll have to look into the Sattellite IR thats a new one on me. I was thinking the Helium platform would be good for easy pics when needed, but it doesn't seem possible considering the amount of gas needed and wind problems. A Cessna 172 probably is best. I will post some pics when I get set up. Got plenty of money available for whatever I may need. I did see some nice camera's available [new, used, rentals] Gonna take some practise to read the pics from what I've seen.

If you have any friends in law enforcement most of their helicopters have that camera set up on the already and it is really good. They sometimes rent the choppers to others that don't have one in their department.Money usually works if it is presented properly . Good Luck in your endeavor , Bob

ok off topic but at service master they had a hand held thermal imager for checking disaster jobs i.e. water mixing with other certain indutrial chemicals that would react violently to water etc..never saw one in use but read about them in the quartely news letter they would send us..about the size of papperback book very cool tool not what your looking for but a hint at maybe a direction to take...maybe at night this would help out in a form or another...
