you won't ruin the coil, you may break the cover.

I'm taking for granted there is a Cover there :P

take the thinest knife you own, and run it between the coil
& the cover all the way around everywhere you can.

once you'v done this, try prying very carefully.
while working your way around it.

    Good Luck !

These can sometimes be hard to remove. Run that thin knife along the edge to loosen the coil cover. A kitchen knife works good for this job. You can tap on the knife to jar the cover to move some and repeat around the edges carefully. Sometimes some warm water in a shallow pan where you can set the bottom of the cover to warm it helps. Don't get the warm water over the top of the coil, you want to expand only the coil cover.

I have a DFX and I gave up trying to get the cover off. After I got it off the last time I kept it off. I only get out once a week so it will be a while before I wear it out.

Here's a previous thread about it...

What I ended up doing was using a piece of wood (3/4" x 3/4" x 18") with a good edge on it and pushing on one side of the cover...pops off with a little effort.
