which one/your tech, probe
I'm going to buy a probe, AM I correct in assuming this device is a helpful pinpoint tool,
what percentage of the time on your signal do you follow up and use your probe.
Ill buy it after reading the recommendations on here also I don't mind getting the better unit, but would like a suggestion as to where you would shop it on line thanks.
who likes what the ones mounted on the unit or not and the advantages please?

Re: which one/your tech, probe
I use the Vibra Probe and so far I am pretty happy with it. Check it out here http://www.vibraprobe.com/vibraprobe.cfm That's where I bought mine.
When I started I didn't have one, but my friend did. He was a little quicker getting his targets. I use it on about 90% of my digs, the other 10% is when I can see the coin or whatever as soon as I lift the plug. Pin-pointing is easy with my XLT, but laying my hands on the target is that much easier with the probe.
I like the Vibra probe because I can use it in water and there are no switches and it is built strong. It also vibrates so I can leave my headphones on. It only vibrates when the target is in front of the tip. It won't vibrate if the target is off to one side or the other. I find that in most soils it can detect about 2 inches which is just about perfect for me.
There are some good probes besides this one, but I would recommend the Vibra probe.

Re: which one/your tech, probe
kyhills, You will definitely enjoy having one of these aboard on your next outing! I have an Explorer xs and I got it w/ a Sunray X1 probe.....This is the first probe I've ever had on a machine. Awesome, saves time and wear and tear on the constant up and down thing.....I have been very happy with my x1 and to your question about how much I use it, I would say probably 75 to 80 percent of the time. These are a little more money than the handheld models. I think from what I've read and experienced out in the field that sunray products go deeper than the handhelds as well, not much but maybe an inch.....correct me if I'm wrong on that everyone!! (Don't mean to bash anybody's products here!!) The other thing, I just recently bought the explorer and at times have struggled w/ pinpointing the target, so the probe has rreally been handy for this purpose alone!!! Good luck w/ your search for the right probe!! Nascarfan

Re: which one/your tech, probe
would you explain, when its mounted (the probe) then when you want to pinpoint the target, how does that work is the md still on does it over ride the md, a little confused. I see where the handheld would be independant,

Re: which one/your tech, probe
kyhills, Basically it is mounted onto the upper shaft of my detector. Its got a couple of prongs for lack of a better word, and when it's not in use the probe just sit's right inside the prongs. Then when you're ready to pinpoint inside the hole, you just flick the switch to change the power over from the coil to the probe!! You do not want to forget to change it back over as I have done on numerous times!!! Nascarfan

I use DetecPro's Pocket Probe. It's a little expensive for a hand-held, but unlike the mounted probes, you can use it with multiple probes.
