Re: hunt onder high power wires

About the only thing you might try is to turn your sensitivity wayyy down until the interference stops. Or try it during off hours with less current flowing through the lines.

I can't guarantee this will work, but its the only two things I can think of off the top of my head.

Interference from electrical lines is common. There may be some detectors out there where the interference is lessened. I'm not sure any exist that completely ignore it.

Any P.I. users out there that have tried their units under powerlines?

I've worked under power lines with a PI unit. I used a two-meter universal coil in a figure-eight configuration. You lose some depth and it takes a bit of practice to use, but it does work. I saw a photo of what Lorenz uses--two loops piggy backed/stacked. Never tried this but I suspect it works better than the figure-eight.

I also had a problem under those megavolt metal monsters using the XLT. But tried the same area with a White's MXT & it was quiet. HH, George (MN)

go find the nearest transformer station, and hit the "off" switch. Be prepared for a lot of people to be really mad at you tho', as they won't be able to log on to TN.
I noticed that no-one really utilizes all the signature space provided, so I figured to be REALLY original I would make up the longest signature that I could and probably just leave it as one big run on sentence because all that punctuation just takes up way too much space-HH.

The man is correct. Explorer is the deal. Make sure the detector is not over any targets. Lay the machine flat on the ground, use 'Noise Cancel' feature. Any slight movement will throw off the function. Might take two or three tries to find a clear channel. You can also go to 'Manual Noise Cancel' and perhaps make it clear up. If you can't get rid of the interference wait for a different day with a different barometer/humidity reading. If you have access to an Explorer you will be hunting where very few can.
