Revolutionary War Battlefield

So I live in Charlotte, NC and here not 5 minuetes down the road from my home is McIntyre's Battlefield, where 14 men (and angry bees) ran off 300-400 british troops. However the land has just been purchased to become a shopping mall... and I am just gettin into the sport of MDing and never got to go there. Now it is marked with no trespassing signs, I cant find any documents that state where the actually troops were in the area to narrow my search radius, and the woods to the rear of the area (in which I believe the American Civilians used as cover) are owned by a private owner.

I dont know if the area has been combed over throughly or if anyone has EVER taken the time to look but I believe as an Ameture Historian the area should be looked over before the area if shredded. How might I go about getting some kind of contract with the company, private owners, and/or the County (which would cover all three)
