I don't know the answer to your question, but if you like Google Earth, you'll LOVE Worldwind. Check it out at:
http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/
Several more tool buttons for different sat views and USGS map overlay. Also, a 3 D engine if your video card has that ability. Double click left button to zoom in and double click right button to zoom out.
This one is more addictive than Google.

Re: google maps, satellite, having problems
Hi Art!
I've been using Terraclient along side Google Earth for quite awhile. Terraclients topomap overlay has been very helpful in locating old mines as well as Ancient River Deposits with a Geological map on the table. After I locate and get the co-ordinates with Terraserver, then I switch over to Google Earth to get a closer colorized version from various angles. The prospectors of even 10 years ago didn't have this technology.

Hey Randy….I use Goggle Earth, TerraCleint and the Delorme Topo. The Delorme gives me the elevations and the different views from the other two lets me know just what is there. The roads and trails will be more pronounced on one of them as the angle of the photos is always different...Art
