opinions on teknetics omega 8500

recently sold my gamma 6000, really miss that bugger soooooooo I went and bought a omega 8500 with the cash I got of the gamma

what can you tell me guys about it?
I also have a 11 dd coil that was planning to sell, should I keep it? is it better than the 10 elliptical concentric coil?

any input would be helpful

First: Definitely keep the 11" dd. Good to have both the DD and the elliptical coaxial coils because the excel at different things. Concentrics tend to false less on bottlecaps and tend to pinpoint better. DD's are deeper under most circumstances (same coil size). I would also highly recommend getting a sniper type coil like the Teknetics "Greek Series" 5" dd or the NEL series value coils like the Sharp, Snake, or Sharpshooter DD's which let you get into tight spots without sacrificing much depth.

The Omega has some upgrades vs. the Gamma user interface wise but the performance is similar. One knock againsT the 8500 (vs. the 8000, its predecessor and other Teknetics detectors) is that the tones are more electronic sounding and that puts some people off. Good detector overall, though

one thing that puts me off on the gamma was rmi issues, omega has fixed not completely but near that's why I stayed with the brand, laater on I gonna try to get a g2 or a t2 ltd when i get more cash

What do you mean by RMI issues?

Gotcha. I own a Gamma. Even after GB, it still chatters a little. More than I like.

Sorry to pepper you with questions, but I am struggling to understand the Gamma.
What do you mean by FS? So, is this interference from other sources, such as power lines?

I am running discrimination at 49 and sensitivity from 70 to 75.
I don't think the ground I hunt over is highly mineralized, as the "set GB" on my DeLeon is absolutely perfect. No chatter ever.
Any suggestions as to the settings I am using.
I do ground grab, often, but this is another story.

Of course mine is the Gamma and that's a demo of a Omega 8500. A lot of similarities.

I run my DeLeon on low sensitivity, and it's a coin killer.
So, this morning I went out in the yard with the Gamma and tossed some targets on the grass.
Ran it normal for a bit, sensitivity at 75. Then lowered the sensitivity to 40. Wow, quiet as a mouse and didn't appear to lose any depth. Sweet.

So I buried a quarter and a penny at a measured 6 inches. Picked the targets up loud and clear, very precise.

Yep, it appears this machine is just fine. Just needs some time to understand it.
I have a hunch it loves nickels.

I really regret selling my gamma, but i got a great offer on the 8500 i couldnt pass so thats why i got a teknetics again

I just went out with it again for 45 min, testing different settings.
Here is what I like.
Sensitivity 55
Discrimination 49
I also like this detector all metal. I found all 5 coins in AM, and then verified with the disc settings. Spot on.
