Heard this tale from somewhere, in which a minor skirmish took place between Belleview and Booneville, Tennessee (some say in Alabama) during the Civil War, and this skirmish involved the capture and hiding of a Union payroll near a "Keel Mountain". I have not found (yet) anything pertaining to this skirmish in the Official Records.

But on the bright side, I passed a small mountain that looked like an overturned boat near Belleview, north of Fayetteville. Anyone know more of this story?

I have found the record of the confrontation in the Huntsville library, I just bought 70 acres on Keel Mountain and plan on starting a grid search, There are many old caves on my property, I also found a cauldren about 12' in diameter and appears to be 20' deep water flows into it, I will keep everybody informed on any finds, I will be looking for any war vintage aswell.
