Tesoro will be making water detectors again in April

Tesoro announced their hot water detectors will again be produced in April. They will be hard wired with a choice of 10.5" or 8" coils. Check them out at http://www.tesoro.com/product/catalog/

Read the magazines and catalogs online or have them mailed to you. Field Tests and more.

Man, I sure hope they mean it this time.

Sandman, do you know how well the Tiger Shark does in the wet sand of an ocean beach?

Re: Tesoro will be making water detectors again in April

Just picked up a tiger shark after sending back my AT Pro with problems. Having a problem with ground balance. Tried it for the first time in one foot waves and the sound was all over the map. It was up and down like a yoyo. After 10 minutes I went back to my old reliable Excalibur. On the beach... no problem. First question - what is the proper way to ground balance this machine and second - do waves bother this machine? I have 2 Excaliburs and I would like to use this as a backup.

The manual covers ground balancing well. You can do it manually or let the detector do it. However a few feet away the conditions could be different and the AT Pro does not adjust automatically as you sweep down the beach.

Due to the different amounts of salt concentrations and black sand at some sites, the ATP can sound off in the shallow water when a wave washes over the coil. As for using the ATP as a back up, your better off with another Excal or if not going in the water as a back up the Sov GT is better than the Excal II. The ATP is not a water detector and I think it was designed to just hunt in the rain.

As for the Tiger Shark falsing in the wet saltwater sand, it can at some locations and not others due to amount of salt and black sand. The Tiger is able to find those thin gold chains so it stands to reason it is hotter and can also respond to bird shot or tiny pieces of gold. I like to think of it as a waterproof Lobo.

Re: Tesoro will be making water detectors again in April

My problem with ground balancing the tiger shark is I'm not sure what I am looking (or listening) for. Is it a lack of sound, a quieter sound or maybe a distinct sound. They mention air testing it!!! Do you hold it on the ground like my Quattro while it goes through its test or do you pass it slowly over an area? How do you ground balance it in fresh water? They mention turning the lower right knob five turns clockwise then back so many turns depending on the type of conditions you are experencing. Is it exactly what they recommend or it varies on conditions. I wish someone would post a video similar to the one Garrett put out on their AT Pro. I could see and hear what was happening when they explained how it worked. I believe it is an excellent machine, however, at my age I hate these learning curves. Appreciate your help.

Re: Tesoro will be making water detectors again in April

What Tesoro means when ground balancing by turning the GB knob "five turns" to the right means this gets it past the stops which aren't there so it is at the farthest point and then backing it off half as much so it is in the middle of its range. Then you sweep it around to find a clean piece of ground without metal and raise the coil while in ALL METAL fast and lowering it again while listening to the threshold to see if it raises or lowers in volume. Before you've done this you should have adjusted the Threshold volume by the knob inside the set for a faint tone. The Volume knob is for adjusting the volume of a response to a target. The other pot inside is for sensitivity. LEAVE THIS POT ALONE TILL YOU GAIN EXPERIENCE.
The Tiger Shark does not have a auto GB feature and if you move into an area where the conditions change you can take it out of DISC and run in ALL METAL while checking the tone while raising and lowering the coil again. If you are hunting saltwater wet sand, stay in the wet sand and GB again when crossing into the dry sand. The Tiger can false when a wave washes over the coil in saltwater because of different salt concentrations. To not do so you need to spend $$$$ more for an Excal if you want some disc.

Hey, thanks a lot. You have sure cleared up my problem. I really had no clue how to ground balance this machine. Your right... I have 2 Excaliburs and the AT Pro and the tiger shark are not even in the same ball park. I am looking for a backup machine for those days nothing goes right.

I used to use the Tiger Shark as a back up for my Excal. My AT pro is hanging on the wall.

I hear yah... took the tiger for a spin this morning. Got it balanced and found a nice woman's gold chain about 6 feet from the shore line. Funny thing... my wife has the exact chain which she purchased many years ago for around a $100.00. At least she won't keep this find and I can add it to the gold pile.
