Pinpointing on Silver Umax

When I hear that familiar BEEP BEEP on my Umax, I know that my target is very shallow (usually). Are you guys able to pinpoint without a pinpointer?, and just use a screwdriver to pop out the target? If so, do you switch to all metal mode first to get a better lock on the target? Lots of questions I know, but I'm just learning, and I want to catch up quick! Thanks

Not much of a coinshooter - mainly a relic hunter so I'm no good with the screwdriver technique, but Tesoros are dead on when pinpointing. Either with the 8" "donut" coil (stock on the Silver) or with the 8"x9" Concentric, dead center of the coil is where it's at...

The Tesoros are very easy to pinpoint with and I have noticed that targets close to the surface do give a double beep.
To pinpoint these signals, I usually just raise the coil slightly until I just get one beep and this usually helps in this situation.
With that being said, I do use a pinpointer which is helpfull in avoiding to scratch or damage coins, buttons, and other possible good targets.
I also use a lecshe digging tool and have not used a screwdriver for popping coins out of the ground.

With my silver, I will "X" the target, and then confirm by moving the coil around the outside of the center of that X just to make sure it's where I thought it was. It's dead on! TESORO, BABY!

with the silver µmax a shallow target will make the signal " dance " in your headphones especially if it is almost on the surface. bounce the coil lightly on the ground over a shallow target to see this.
as far as pinpointing a target, a couple of sweeps across the target will put you right on top of the target with a little practice.

I use a screwdriver for shallow targets too.

Pinpointing isn't much of an issue for me as I use a Propointer which saves me a lot of time.

Hi all, I have a silver umax and find coins at 2 to 3 inches pinpointing is very easy with the umax. but I also use a pro pointer, just help with the recovery faster and don't have to dig a big hole.

Since were talking about the silver u max what depth can I expect to get out of it? I seem to find a good chunk of iron easy at 5 to 6 inches but what about a dime size coin how deep can it detect ? I feel I should get better depth what do you all think.
I also have a 12 x 10 coil. anyone out there that can give testimonial

on my test garden a beer can at 24 inches is way out by about 3-4 inches on pinpointing due signal delay .sef coil used ,12x10

Since I've started this thread, I've come to find that the Silver Umax pinpoints extremely well and don't even need my pinpointer half the time on shallow targets because my big fat screwdriver is doing wonders on this hard to dig dry turf. I can't say that I've found any deep dimes yet, or any coins more than maybe six inches. Big Iron at 18 inches is easily detected though. I'm just hoping that one of those old coffee cans will be full of money some day.
