Vaquero, Cibola, Conquistador, Perfect for those Tot Lots!

I've had my Tesoro Conquistador for several years. It is perfect for hunting those wood chip/sand tot lots. It will pick up those very small gold items like those tiny 10k medalions. Super light you can swing all day. Meters on a machine are not needed in the tot lots, you got to dig everything anyway. It gets pretty good depth as well, I've uncovered clads at 6 inches with no problem. I have 8 metal detectors, and the Conquistador is my main choice for the tot lots.

Took my new Compadre to a Tot Lot with wood chips today. I set the Disc. on the "F" letter of the Foil setting, as you mentioned using with your Compadre. By scanning my coil in front and back of the swings, starting about 20 feet out from the swing seats and working in toward the seats, I found (2) Jefferson Nickles and (1) Lincoln clad penny ! Also found several modern pull tabs and several chunks from a bronze casting that was apparently hit by a lawn mower blade.

I know a lot of hunters that.............. Know that the Tesoros a good for any type of hunting.........Not just tot lots................ They get a bad rap alot that they don't deserve.......

With that setting, you shouldn't miss any of the good stuff!

I run my Silver uMax in tot lots. I have to keep the sensitivity setting between 2-3 to avoid readily picking up the metal poles, but I still get decent depth. FYI I run the discriminator on iron in tot lots.

I have never tried my Vaquero in a tot lot. It would be akin to using a Weatherby 460 for cottontail rabbits.

It was a beautiful day with the temperature just right, so I decided to take my new Compadre back to the same park I went to yesterday (See previous post above.). So packed my lunch and was off !

I hunted the Tot Lots and the grass around the basketball poles (Jump shots tend to send coins flying out of pockets ! Also hunted around a wooden bench that the basket ball players use to rest; this particular bench is always good for frequently replenished modern coins.

My total for the day was (1) Roosevelt dime, (2) more Jefferson Nickels, (11) Lincoln pennies (some were pre-82, 95% coppers) and assorted trash, such as beavertail pull tabs, modern pop tabs, a piece of aluminum chain link fence wire, wire twisters, a lead bolt anchor, end of broken pencil with ferrule and a plastic eye glass side piece with the tiny metal hinge still attached.

Again, as on yesterdays hunt, I had Disc. set on the "F" in the Foil setting during the entire hunt, which lasted about 5 hours. Usually, I don't last that long, but the weather was great and I was having fun ! I would have stayed even longer but my 70 year old diabetic feet were hurting too much from squatting as I dug and made target retrievals.

Still no jewelry finds, but if it doesn't rain I plan to hunt again tomorrow and we shall see !

I'm very satisfied with my little Compadre.

Oh yea! It's Fort Knox all right! The unit was Bravo 2-1, AIT, Disney Barracks, or what we called "Disneyland". It was September of 1975. Great memories.

I have dug hundreds and hundreds of civil war artifacts with the old tesoro conquistador with freq shift. Also many old coins. I like the beep and depth as well.
Heaven forbid you get old iron with a halo at two feet cause you will end up digging it lol. Just have to learn the sputters and chirps and tune in.
I am sure I can spend much much more but still out hunt most of my buds while they are tuning in and adjusting all the time
