Keep getting false signals with my tejon!!!,,,sounds good and diggable ,but then I dig,,, cant find anything?,,and the signal is gone,
phhhht just gone!!!! ,,,maybe sensitivity too high ?,, also my trigger gets stuck in the #2 disc position.

Could very well be "Halo Effect," and you are running your sensitivity too high. Also check your sidewall fairly shallow in a situation like that.

I will try that for sure,,,,it does not appear to be a shallow signal, sounds like a good deeper target,,,,oh well thanks for the advice.

just a dumb ? but is your coil cord pretty snug against the pole, my tejon was chatty and had to run sens pretty low alot of the times

Hi Artstuff, don't remember if it was you or probably someone else but I replied once before to someone having somewhat the same problem with their Tejon. Same thing happens to me too sometimes, though I sometimes don't loose the signal. Dig a hole as big as a washtub, and half way to China and there is still a signal, but no "find." I can step out into my yard and in a few minutes get the same results, and my general soil is known to be mild.I "think " it may be happening because of small spotty mineral deposits that are setting off my Tejon. Same thing happened when I first hunted my yard with my Troy X5. In my case it may be a type clay known as Kaolin which is known to be in the area.Chimney brick was long ago sometimes made with it and some people have gotten strong readings from old chimney brick piles.i Always wondered why in 42 years of detecting and standing on many a pile of old chimney brick, I never had that experience. Then again, I have had the experience of digging a couple of inches into the clay deposit,(usually at least 10" at this point) and found a goodie, thus ending the signal. Beats me HH Cass

Select either fast or slow auto tune all metal mode and ground balance of to the side of the target. about a couple of feet away. If then the ground balance is good and the tone does not change when you lower the coil to the ground, rescan the target, if the signal returns then there is likely to be a real target there. You can also try ground balancing over the target area and if then the detector will GB in that spot then it is probably hot ground, if it won't gb then there is probably metal there.
If when you re ground balance, the detector chirps or blanks out when you place the coil on the ground to the side of the target a couple of feet away then you have hot ground and therefore,when you go to the disc mode the detector is sounding off because of the hot ground. All you can do is lower the sensitivity untill the detector is quiet.
After I re read this it sort of sounds a bit odd but maybe you can make sense of it?

Cass, and adrian, these are both great tips that I will be working on for sure!!! my soil here in southern il. is considered mild I belive, so I will work on that a little,, also the idea of digging a bigger target hole is something that I will do for sure ,, I always dig a 4-5 inch circle hole which is to small really!!!,,just a habit I have developed,,,,real small compared to the holes I see these guys on here with minelabs digging,,10-12 inchers,,,,("manhole covers"!!!). thanks for the tips guys ,,,they will improve my tejon tactics for sure, I use my vaquero as a main detector, but would like to graduate to the tejon as time goes by ,,they are a good team!!!!

LOL, Artstuff, you lusting after the Tejon reminds me of the time I was standing by(with Tejon in my hand) watching my diggin Buddy ( using his Vaquero) dig the deepest coin I have ever seen anyone dig. The whole kept getting deeper, and the signal just keep on saying "a little deeper". I won't even attempt to say how deep it was but it was deeper than any I had dug, seen dug,, or have yet, to dig with my Tejon and, I have dug some pretty deep ones. It was a silver "love token" made from a 1800's dime.You can believe I was lusting bigtime after a Vaquero while watching him go a little deeper every time he slid the Vaq. coil across the hole. Besides having been smoothed slick on one side for the art work and inscription, it had been worn long enough to have been worn even smoother yet. It was thin, and then some! Lol, Don't get into big a fever over the TJ as that Vaq of yours is one smoking machine and ain't giving anything up to the TJ, certainly not from the Silver depatrtment, and not likely from anywhere else either. Let's play around with the GB knob some and maybe we can figure out what to do with the quirky dirt. Great idea that I never thought of doing. HH Y'all! Cass
