    DeLeon FAQ

I am new to the DeLeon, and TID (target Identification Display).

After using the Tesoro Silver Umax for about 100 hunts, let me tell you it is quite an adjustment from audio only. The display looks so simple, but there is a lot of info there, and it is going to be a longer learning curve than I anticipated. What's hanging me up, is the "sweep and pause" to look at the display hunting, rather than sweep, sweep, sweep, sweep with the audio, and the stationary pinpointing in All Metal mode.

My main question (that's not in the manual) is...

IS IT BETTER TO TRY AND ID THE TARGET WHILE HOVERING OVER IT IN ALL METAL MODE, OR BY MAKING SLOW SMALL SWEEPS IN DISCRIMINATION MODE

This was a real problem for me yesterday, because I was in a park riddled with can slaw, and it gave me quite a challenge trying hone in on a target.

Also I never realized how much I would have to lift the coil. Is it recommended to shorten the pole a bit because of this? I like it really long, and drag it over the grass, but when I lift, I don't think I'm very parallel to the ground. Practice I guess. I'm out for another hunt right now with it. Wish me luck!

For trashy areas use disc to try to id the target. All metal will not give good id.

As for lifting the coil, I think you are referring to shortening the shaft so the coil is nearer you foot and it makes it lighter. You don't have to lift the coil. You can have a longer shaft for the sweeps and still have the coil level to the ground. I find it easier to use shorter sweeps and over lap becauses the coils field is only about 2" wide at the bottom of the field. Also try to rely on just the audio.

    Re: DeLeon FAQ

I find the ID information on the DeLeon useful, but still rely primarily on the audio signals to tell me what is in the ground. If I get a good clear audio signal I usually look at the ID as I am pinpointing to give me a bit of extra information.

For pinpointing I X the target in Disc mode rather than switch to all metal.
